Digital and AI-powered solutions are reshaping mental health care, yet the majority of the global population remains excluded from this transformation. Over 80 percent of people living with mental health conditions are in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where access to care is still severely limited and where digital innovations often fail to take root or scale sustainably.
This presentation explores how digital innovation can be adapted and implemented ethically in LMICs to strengthen mental health systems, expand access to care, and empower local actors. Drawing on lessons from system-level reforms and international collaborations, the presentation explores how digital innovation can be effectively connected with public health priorities to deliver real impact in low- and middle-income countries.
Through real-world examples and solution-oriented insights, the session highlights how governments, international organizations, and private sector innovators can work together to build sustainable, rights-based digital ecosystems for mental health in the Global South.
