Description

Proposal Outline - Problem we are addressing - In Latin America and the Caribbean, there are high unmet mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, suicidality, and trauma amplified by soaring rates of poverty and violence. However, there are no broad regional crisis prevention and intervention services available, or with the ability to scale to meet the needs of the region. In Latin America and the Caribbean: -Suicide is the third leading cause of death for people aged 15-29 -70% of people who need mental health care don’t receive it -Only 3.8 mental health workers per 100,000 people - recommended ratio is 20 Overview of Crisis Text Line & Aqui Estoy Chat - In order to support Spanish speakers in Latin America and the Caribbean at the scale required, Aquí Estoy, a nonprofit based in Argentina has merged with and become part of Crisis Text Line (do you have the date/month?), a leading nonprofit based in the US, providing free, 24/7, confidential support in English and Spanish. This merger brings the local expertise and brand of Aqui Estoy together with the technology, clinical expertise and scale of Crisis Text Line along with its deep impact research. Who We Are Serving - The service is free and available to anyone seeking mental health or emotional support, particularly: young people and women (as the highest percentage of users), victims of violence and anyone without access to other mental health emotional support services, especially low income and vulnerable/marginalized communities. Better Together - The integration of Aquí Estoy allows Crisis Text Line to have an immediate presence with a trusted, experienced brand while leveraging the technology, volunteer model, and clinical expertise for significant scale and impact insights Going (More) Global - Crisis Text Line is committed to an inclusive, equitable service with an ongoing process of self-reflection and critique that involves learning about and respecting different cultures. As with our current Spanish service in the US, we will approach differences in dialects, populations, demographics, and crisis-driven events with cultural humility. Creating Win-\Win Partnerships - Supporting millions of people in a way that balances scale and quality requires both large broad based partners that operate regionally across multiple countries, along with mental health and locally focused partners. Data Where There Is No Data - How Aquí Estoy plans to help fill the data and insights gap on mental health in Latin America using our world-class Research & Impact team and the powerful analyses that have proven to be ground-breaking in our current markets.
