Jillian Mullowney is a Senior Specialist in Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) with the Canadian Red Cross. She has over fifteen years of experience as a registered social worker and emergency manager, specializing in trauma-informed, equity-based approaches to humanitarian response. Jillian has supported major Canadian emergencies, including wildfires, floods, and mass casualty events, and is currently leading a national strategy to integrate MHPSS into emergency operations and community partnerships.
Her work centers on strengthening psychosocial resilience through collaboration, training, and sustainable practices. She is particularly passionate about the intersection of climate change and mental health, advocating for systems to recognize and respond to the psychosocial impacts of ecological disruption, especially for youth, socially marginalized groups, and land-connected communities.
Jillian has contributed to responses for some of Canada’s most significant emergencies, from her first deployment to the 2013 Southern Alberta floods through this summer’s wildfires. Today, she leads initiatives to mainstream MHPSS across organizational systems, ensuring communities have the tools and practices needed for future crises.
