Speaker Bio

Danielle Downie is a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Toronto. Her research focuses on digital mental health and substance use treatment. Specifically, she seeks to gain a better understanding how digital cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) programs can enhance emotional regulation, coping skills, and motivation to change among individuals with substance use disorders (SUD). At eMHIC25, Danielle is presenting findings from a study examining subscale-level improvements in distress tolerance, drug-taking confidence, and readiness to change among participants using CBT4CBT—a computer-based CBT program designed to support recovery through interactive skill-building.

Danielle has contributed to several projects evaluating digital health interventions in Canadian and international contexts, with a particular interest in how person-centered digital tools can expand access to evidence-based care. In addition to her research, she is completing clinical training in both neuropsychological assessment and psychotherapy.

Danielle is passionate about bridging clinical science and digital innovation to improve real-world outcomes in mental health and addiction. She is excited to be part of eMHIC25 and to collaborate with global leaders working to advance equitable and effective digital mental health solutions.
