Dr Reginald (Reg) D. V. Nixon is currently a Professor in Psychology, Flinders University. A clinical psychologist and researcher, he has been involved in the treatment and research of trauma for over 20 years. He has a specific interest in both acute and chronic effects of trauma, such as why some individuals show good psychological adjustment and others develop pathological responses, as well as improving the development of evidence-based treatments for acute stress disorder and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD).Â
He has been a recipient of a number of major grants, with major grants including those from the Australian Research Council and the National Health and Medical Research Council. In recent years, he has been working on the dissemination of evidence-based PTSD therapies for clinicians, for example, disseminating Cognitive Processing Therapy to organisations such as the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the Australian Defence Force. More recently, he has assisted dissemination of Cognitive Processing Therapy in routine community mental health agencies. He is currently overseeing projects delivering PTSD treatments to veterans, first responders, and young people, as well as a stepped-care intervention offering therapy via telehealth. He has published 116 peer-reviewed journal publications, a number of book chapters, and a book on Cognitive Processing Therapy.
