Speaker Bio

Sana Junaid is a Ph.D. student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Toronto, where she is advancing research at the intersection of cognitive science and mental health. She is currently based at the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), working in the Mood and Addiction Research and Treatment Lab. Her research is centred on understanding how cognitive risk factors—such as impulsivity, emotion regulation difficulties, and decision-making biases—contribute to substance use and depression outcomes. Sana is part of several longitudinal cohort studies at CAMH. She aims to uncover mechanisms that underlie comorbid mood and substance use disorders, with the goal of informing more effective, personalized treatment approaches. She is particularly interested in the ways cognition may influence treatment trajectories, relapse risk, and long-term recovery. Sana’s work bridges clinical and experimental domains, contributing to a broader understanding of how cognitive vulnerabilities shape the course of mental illness. Beyond her research, she is dedicated to clinical training and evidence-based interventions, working with diverse populations impacted by a range of disorders. Sana is committed to translational science that enhances real-world outcomes and advances equity in mental health care.
