Professor Gemma Sharp is a clinician-scientist and has led a program of body image, eating, and weight disorders research in Australia since 2018. She is best known for her world-leading research in digital mental health innovations, including JEM™ and ED ESSI™ eating disorder assistant chatbots. She has held consecutive National Health and Medical Research Council of Australia fellowships since 2018 to support her research. She is also a registered clinical psychologist and credentialed eating disorder clinician in Australia, leading a private practice since 2019. In late 2023, she established and became the Founding Director of the international Consortium for Research in Eating Disorders (CoRe-ED), a registered charity, which aims to promote innovations in eating disorders research by empowering all voices and ultimately creating new therapies for all people experiencing eating disorders. CoRe-ED has already attracted registrants from over 20 countries and 5 continents, and 18 partners (as of May 2025), including eMHIC.
