Description

I) Overview of the intentions and strategies for the blended coaching and self-reflection program created by the company humanStreams, which aims to make the psychotherapeutic process more accessible, more effective, more scalable and lower cost. Present the key factor for the success of the program: emphasizing the hyper-humanistic, across the program, prompts, technology platform and culture. A. Offering: The humanStreams mental health coaching program relies on the combination of technology and human coaching to deliver clinically significant improvement in the mental health of participants with significant reduction in cost and provider time. This is accomplished by leveraging out-of-session time, motivating participants to engage in self-reflection, particularly with the emotional and psychological depth required for therapeutic growth. The platform provides a space and tools for people to reflect and let out their thoughts, in a way analogous to what they would do within a coaching session. By providing a space for participants to perform this essential "reflection<>expression cycle" away from their coach, we enable opportunities to optimize the use of live human time and the psychotherapeutic system of care. B. Components and use of the humanStreams technology platform: 1. Promoting the reflection<>expression cycle relies on technology designed to be hyper-humanistic, based on research by Erica Savig, PhD from Stanford University, on creatively eliciting deep reflection (by children and families on their traumatic experiences of isolation during stem cell transplantation) 2. Mixing techniques, cultures and approaches from Design Thinking & Palliative Care 3. Participants listen to guided prompts from collection of 250+ prompts created by Erica Savig, PhD and Dr. Barbara Karanian, psychologist at Stanford University 4. Participants reflect in a creative stream-of-consciousness style akin to texting, with multiple modes of representation (e.g. audio, text, writing, pictures, drawing, videos) C. Coaching: With participants engaging in the reflection<>expression cycle outside of the session, we are able to utilize highly effective 10-minute live coaching sessions each week. Sessions focus on remaining essential components of the psychotherapeutic process – relationship, synthesis, accountability, and direction. Coaches spend another 5-10 minutes per week per participant for chat interactions and logistics. - Significant reduction in provider time and cost - Low scheduled time commitment and flexibility for the participants: 6-week program with 10-minute sessions that can easily fit into the workday or evening; between-session work done on their own time - Personalization of Program: participant-led discussions; coach-recommended prompts address participant’s pertinent needs - Naturally motivating the therapeutic process by amplifying the coach-participant relationship. 1. Coach recommends guided audio prompts each week based on what they’ve learned about their particular needs and preferences; participants feel inclined to do the work 2. Participant shares their reflections with the coach, letting their coach know more about themselves and what they experience during the week; coach is more informed and stays in touch 3. Participant receives continuous guidance and support from coach between sessions in messaging conversations II). Present results of pilot study on 25 individuals over 6 weekly sessions, including clinically significant improvements to WHO-5 scores (15-point average)
