Time
11:30 AM - 11:40 AM (EST)
Description

Mental Health Research Canada has been collecting population data every 6 - 8 weeks throughout the pandemic beginning in week three, and now continues this data collection quarterly. We have now collected data from more than 90,000 people in Canada and this longitudinal data set cannot be replicated by any individual researcher or organization. MHRC's work is unique in our commitment to rapid reporting, and feedback on usefulness of this work from stakeholders across the country has been outstanding. Federal and Provincial governments, mental health organizations and charities, industry associations, advocacy groups and many other stakeholders use this up-to-date data to support data informed decision making and data informed advocacy. Early data collections were originally funded by MHRC and our federal government through Heath Canada has provided funding from 2020 through 2028 to continue this work. This data has provided current and relevant insights, originally into the impact of lockdowns and vaccines on peoples' mental health in pandemic times, and evolved to provide insights on the interconnections between mental health and including but not limited to age, gender, inflation, geopolitical events, drug/alcohol use, online gambling, newcomer status, climate change, and screen time, to name but a few. The data set and analysis reveals important information into access to care and vulnerable population needs.
