Time

Description

The WellMob website (https://wellmob.org.au/) was co-developed with frontline First Nations mental health workers across the nation in 2019-2020. The design, development and ongoing management of the website has been Indigenous led. The website was developed in response to an idea from frontline Aboriginal mental health workers in Bundjalung country (north east NSW) during training/ workshops on using digital mental health resources (see From Digital Mental Health to Digital Social and Emotional Wellbeing: How Indigenous Community-Based Participatory Research Influenced the Australian Government’s Digital Mental Health Agenda, International Journal Environmental Res. Public Health 2021, 18, 9757). The abstract aims to demonstrate the point of difference between mainstream mental health applications and resources and culturally embedded content that resonates with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. It aims to grow awareness and implementation of digital SEWB tools as part of clinical practice and health promotion/ advocacy work. Results from a recent website user survey confirm the relevance of the website that focuses on strengths-based and holistic SEWB resources. The website and resources linked have been vetted against strict criteria to validate authenticity, suitability and cultural safety. Whilst there is a growing awareness of the availability of digital SEWB tools, feedback from frontline Aboriginal health workers suggests more workforce development is required to understand its implementation in various primary health care, allied health and community education settings (University of Sydney 2024). The website project team are constantly creating workforce development content in partnership with practitioners and organisations including from within the e-Mental Health in Practice consortia. The team also collaborate with key stakeholders including representatives from peak body and community controlled Aboriginal health organisations to ensure its workforce development content is ethically produced and culturally safe.
